Stormmasta 200g turnout review.

If you've followed me for a while you will know I have a slight obsession with Masta rugs! Ruby is kitted out with stable, fly and various weight turnout rugs from Masta so we just had to share our favourite features of her current rug, the Stormasta 200g turnout in our favourite colour, blue!

Favourite features:

ts actually waterproof...

Now I've had this rug since last year, its well worn and never been reproofed and still withstands the heaviest of downpours we keep having recently! The rain just runs off, no puddling on the back and most importantly a snuggly and dry 'princess pony'. Ruby lives out 24/7 and is very sensitive to rain/life so finding a rug up to her high standards was always going to be a challenge! With Masta I'm reassured, knowing she'll be cosy and dry while I'm working long shifts and unable to just nip to the yard.

Masta rugs have definitely evolved since my little 13hh, now retired pony had his first ones over 15 years ago with lots of added extra bits to make our horses more comfortable and rugs more durable. The stormmasta has a polyester antirub lining to promote a clean shiny coat, even clipped Ruby has had no rubbing and always has a super sparkling coat underneath!

Another favourite feature is the ergonomic fixed neck design. I've always gone for a removable neck, worried there won't be enough give when the heads down grazing but the extra wither material allows for this natural movement preventing mane rubbing and causing less restriction than previous fixed necks I've tried.

Aswell as a smart masta badge branding on the hind end, the rug features a large tail flap with a reflective strip making it ideal for those like me which have to cross a rode to get to the yard from the fields. A simple innovative to help keep our best friends safe! Also useful for finding them with a torch in the dark nights.

Final thoughts

Overall I am extremely happy with how this rug has withstood a winter, the 600 denier ripstop outer fabric has seen no issues with rain, playful youngsters or Rubys field friend wanting a good groom.

I love the simple blue two tone design, it looks stylish without being too in your face for those who prefer a simpler print on their rugs, she types whilst also owning the watermelon print rug.

The only thing I'd change about the rug is to have the cross leg straps instead of just the single tail straps. A personal preference but just as I feel it stops the back end flapping as much in the wind.

I'd also if buying this year would buy a bigger size, the fit was absolutely perfect last year for Ruby but she's since grown a little outwards and now fits 6.9/7ft as apposed to the 6.6 we have this rug in to accommodate her larger shoulders and hippo belly. I would say the rugs are true to size, it is just Ruby has changed shape massively and not a point about the rug itself , but as you may see on photos we do have to have the top buckle open and didn't want to not mention this and think the buckles had broken.
